Does anyone know Sammy? He turned 6 on December 16, 2021!

So, I have a problem and I need your help. A woman named Maria reached out to me via email and asked if I could write a birthday song for her son, Sammy, with a video. She offered to pay $500.

I thought the project would be interesting, so I accepted but responded that I charged $50 per hour for such work and I was not sure if 10 billable hours would be needed. I told her I would bill her upon completing the project (she did offer to make a partial payment upfront, to be fair). I started my work and sent some emails asking for background info to personalize the song. Maria sent some. And then there were no more responses.

I finished the song anyway and delivered it “on time” for Sammy’s birthday. I have heard nothing from Maria and I have no idea whether Sammy got to enjoy the song … or if I will ever be compensated. As far as the money is concerned, I learned my lesson: Don’t be so trusting and nice.

As far as Sammy is concerned, I learn from every project, so I am glad I had this opportunity. I spent more than 10 hours on the song, but only billed for 10. So, I am now posting the video for your enjoyment OR for you to send to Sammy and his parents, if you know them. Of course, they could be anywhere.

(I also admit that I am hoping nothing bad has happened to Sammy, his dog, or any of his family members, given the omicron crazy and natural disasters we are dealing with.)
